Exactly what can we expect from the haunted house and the
maze?
Terror in the Dark is our 12,000 square foot walk through haunted house filled with
torture, torment, terrifying screams and nightmares in a dark atmosphere with live
actors, special effects, and props. It's not for the faint of heart! The Halls of
Mayhem is our secondary attraction. It's an extreme maze of paranoia and hyper
intense sensations.

Are there any rules in place to keep me and my group safe?
We do have a set of rules which will be explained by our front door attendant just
before you enter the house. Our primary rule is we do NOT touch you and you do
NOT touch us.
Click here for a detailed look at warnings and rules of the house.

Do you accept Credit Cards, Debit Cards or Checks?
We accept cash or checks at the gate.  Please make out checks to VLI. We only
accept
credit or debit card payments online. If you pay online you are given the
advantage of a priority admission ticket which entitles you to go to the head of the
line!

Do you offer any discounts or coupons?
We offer many money saving opportunities.  Opening Night admission on Thu.
October 22nd is only $5.  The Dual Pass will save you $3 off of the regular price of
both attractions.  A canned food item will get you a buck off of admission to either
attraction.

Here's a
printable coupon you may use for a dollar off admission to either of the
attractions.  The printable coupon is not good on opening night.  Please notice
coupons and canned food items may not be combined for larger discounts.

Don't forget that if you
pay online you will get the added value of going to the head
of the line at the haunted house.  Terror in the Dark is proud to be the best value
against any haunted attraction in the Black Hills.

Is there an age restriction? / Just how scary is it?
Sorry, no one under 10 years old is allowed in the house.  We pride ourselves on
scaring the yell out of you.  You will find some disturbing images and a lot of
extremely scary situations.  Be advised that our house is not for the faint of heart!

Where does the Haunted House take place?
Soule Building at the Central States Fairgrounds in Rapid City, SD.

800 San Francisco St.
Rapid City, SD 57701

How do I get to the Haunted House?
To see what the scare is all about head to the corner of Omaha St. and Campbell
St.  From there go South to the main entrance of the Central States Fairgrounds.
Then turn right and travel about 1/4 mile to parking entrance. Turn right again and
be sure to park on the paved parking lot.  Look for the very large building (Soule
Building) with the lines of people waiting to get in!!

How large is the Haunted House?
We are the LARGEST haunted attraction in the state of South Dakota!!!  We have
a total of 12,000 terrifying square feet of ground for this spooktacular event.

How many people go through the Haunted House?
We scare on average 500 people a night and approximately 4,000 patrons total
each year.

How long do I have to wait to get into the Haunted House?
On Friday and Saturday you can expect the line to be long unless you arrive early.
The weekdays usually don't have long wait lines.  Obviously weather plays a big
role in attendance as well.   We've been doing this for almost twenty years so don't
worry about waiting too long.  We keep groups of 2 to 6 people going in the house
at least every couple minutes.

Do we have to wait outside in the cold before getting into the
Haunted House?
We have a very large indoor waiting area that is sheltered from the cold.  At peak
times the line might extend outdoors, but we keep the groups going quickly.

Do you have food or drinks available in the waiting room?
Near the beginning of the line we have a concession stand that is run by different
local groups, clubs, and organizations each night (If you're group is interested in
volunteering please
contact us).   We usually have pop, hotdogs, popcorn, assorted
candy, and hot drinks available for purchase.

How long does it take to go through the Haunted House?
From beginning to end on average it will take you around 15 to 30 minutes, but
sometimes longer depending on your groups speed.

How much food do you collect?
We are proud to be the third largest producer of canned food items every year for
the
KOTA Care and Share Food Drive! On average we collect 2.000 pounds + food
items for the Black Hills Food Bank each year.

How long does it take to organize the Haunted House?
Organizing and planning a haunted attraction of this magnitude is truly a year
round process. After Halloween we take a couple months off, but usually in January
we are back at it again.

Can I help with the Haunted House?
We utilize over 2,000 hours of volunteer time and are always in need of more
people to help us in any way they can. Details include construction, set-up, move-in,
costumes, props, manning/acting the house and tear-down and clean-up. If you are
wanting to take a special part in our cause then you might like to become a board
member. No matter how you help it is much appreciated!
